This position is not within the Law Department. The position will support the development of Boeing's patent portfolio particularly in areas of technology including networking and communication. Knowledge of computing technology such as Information Assurance, network systems, networking, communication, services, applications & solutions, computing systems, lean and efficient processes, software tools and related areas is highly desirable. Boeing Patent Prosecution Professionals manage Boeing's patent procurement work and transact Boeing patent procurement business with patent offices throughout the world either directly or through outside counsel engaged by the Boeing Law Dept. Boeing Patent Prosecution Professionals also work with Boeing Intellectual Property Consultants and Boeing Patent Portfolio Managers. Key responsibilities of this position include: developing and managing an assigned patent portfolio; participating in assigned Integrated Teams for specified patent portfolio areas, managing Boeing's defense to third party oppositions to Boeing's international patents and directing the day-to-day patent work of outside counsel engaged to prepare and prosecute Boeing patent applications. Boeing Patent Prosecution Professionals develops high quality, world class, strategic and global patent portfolios. Boeing Patent Prosecution Professionals manage Boeing's patent procurement activities in accordance with a defined process including establishing a clear direction for Boeing patent applications prior to filing and focusing responses to official actions as appropriate. Boeing Patent Prosecution Professionals also participate in periodic maintenance fee reviews and also assist Patent Portfolio Managers, Boeing Intellectual Property Consultants and business unit representatives with mining the Boeing patent portfolio for value. [ + ] Intell Prop Creation Processes Advanced, expert knowledge of internal and external processes and procedures for creation of intellectual property rights (e.g., patent prosecution and registration, trademark registration, copyright ownership, trade secret protection) and to interpret, in complex or sensitive situations, the legal status of various forms of intellectual property and collaborate with the Law Department to validate. [ + ] Patent Prosecution Advanced, expert knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of the preparation and prosecution of patent applications and related United States Patent & Trademark Office rules and regulations. Advanced knowledge of Patent Cooperative Treaty application and related international rules and regulations to prepare and prosecute patent applications, and supervise outside counsel. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or a Master's degree with typically 12 or more years' or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other Job related information The anticipated work location will be St. Louis. This position will involve occasional travel. A telecommuting work schedule may be available for one or more days each week. Registration to Practice before the USPTO is required. Substantial hands-on experience with the invention development and patent procurement processes particularly related to computers, networking and communications is highly desirable. Advanced education including business and legal degrees and related work experience will also be given appropriate consideration.
